Welcome to part of my new book, ” Conscious Subconscious Mind Control!” This will teach you how to tap your full creative brain-mind potential!

If you have attended my concerts, you have heard me say, many times, that I bought a guitar at 30 and performed at a private party for Cat Stevens when I was 31! What I have failed to share over the years, is some of the personal growth practices which I now teach, which gave me the moxie to listen to my inner guidance instead of listening to my outer nay sayers and critics!

I discovered early that humans in general seem to use less than 2% of their brain mind potential! While some may argue about this arbitrary number by which many  psychologist, and thinkers have chosen to describe this experience,  this is how I explain it in my seminars !

I like to think of the 2% as the person riding an elephant! I like to think about the 98% of our brain mind potential as the elephant! Now if the rider wants to go left and the elephant desires to go right, what happens? If you said the elephant wins, you were correct! I also call the rider the conscious mind, and the elephant, the subconscious mind! This is the place where habits are formed! Someone once said that after they are formed, they form us!

Now the subconscious mind has two settings! Record or Play! In our daily lives, we are run by habit. The habits are recorded in loops by the subconscious recorder! These loops or recordings play automatically! Habits are automatic! A popular example is when you learn how to drive a stick shift! Your first lesson is probably pretty rough on both you, the vehicle and the teacher!  With practice, your driving soon becomes automatically smooth. The grinding of gears is left behind by a quiet transition from gear to gear! You do not have to think about driving! Why? Because it has become a habit!

Here are some simple was to flip the recorder from play to record!

1. Read books written by people who have accomplished what you desire to accomplish,  like Helen Keller! Helen Keller’s 2% told her that she was blind, deft and mute! Her 98% said that she was an author, a speaker, and a great example to follow!

2. Remember that the subconscious is like a child! It truly desires to help you. Give it a loving name, and gently communicate with it, suggesting that it already knows all that you desire to see, be and experience! I also like to say that a little child really loves questions and it always wants to help! So I sometimes do reversed affirmations which some called, afformations! Example: “How did I become so successful so quickly?” “Why does everyone want to help me succeed?” Remember how the old negative statements went? Why is everyone against me? Then the subconscious jumps into gear explaining why and creating new experiences which prove that the negative statement was correct! The subconscious is the prover!  It always wants you to be right! It does not know the difference between fact or fiction! Every thing you tell it is taken as fact!

3. Remember that the subconscious mind never forgets and always records everything that you have ever learned or experienced! I like to suggest to college students that although you may have missed 98% of the education which you paid $200,000 for, there are no worries! Information was downloaded into your subconscious computer as energy! No energy can ever be destroyed, it simply changes form!

4. I also use positive affirmations and rhymes to make suggestions to my subconscious mind! Example: “Subconscious mind works all of the time and aligns with my Divine design!”  “I radiate flawless health and infinite wealth!” “Thoughts held in the mind, produce after their own kind!”

The name which I have given my inner child is IC. Inner Child, Inner Christ, Imaginary Companion, I CAN, or I CHOOSE!

I also remind my clients that your ID Is your Inner Dialogue! I will be blogging on the process which I used to purchase a guitar at 30 and to perform at a private  party for Cat Stevens at 31! Axl rose said that I could make it in the music business! Bill Graham, Grateful Deads’ Guru, said that I could perform for him any time! The late Muddy Waters and the Late Joh Lee Hooker loved my music and told me so when I opened for therm on the road!

If you are an artist or any one  who desires to experience a break from the mundane! Feel free to contact me for coaching! I am a world-class coach. Why do I say that? Because world-class coaches have said that to me!

When I was 31, a friend informed me that Cat Stevens was going to be attending a private gathering in his honor at the London Bar & Grill, located in Portland, Oregon! He also informed me that I could perform my original music at that party is if I so desired, so that Cat Stevens could hear my music!

When it was time for me to perform, Cat Stevens was sitting on a couch about 5 feet away from me! I started playing my songs and the first song literally fell apart! I was so embarrassed. I asked if I could to start over  and Steve nodded with a smile and said, of course!

I then started performing this song called ‘Reese The Priest’

“My friend Reese was a priest until he kicked the habit!

He found God out in the street, not only in the Abby!

Some folks though him crazy, other though him quite odd!

He said a man don’t need religion just as long as he’s got God!”

The first thing that Cat Stevens said to me after hearing my first song was, “You have something to say!”

I then told him that my friends told me that I was too old to learn how to play. His basic response was, that I should change friends and keep the guitar! I then asked him how he got started in the music business! His hair was quite long and as he buried his face in his lap and shook his head, his hair was all over his head! He then sat up straight and said, “They hated my my voice hear in America! I had to go back to England and find a financial backer!”

I was amazed that an artist of his stature was so accessible and friendly to an upstart musician like myself! I have to say that that encounter encouraged me to continue my efforts to become a performing artist!

Thank you ‘Steve’ as his band affectionately called him!  I have to say that Cat Stevens is in part responsible for Eric Clapton and AXL Rose attending my concerts later in my career!

Yusef  Islam, aka Cat Stevens, you may not remember me brother but I love You and appreciate you!

My Trio I was hired by  the High Street Brewing Company at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio State Buckeyes !  I think it was about 1980! I was standing outside the dressing room waiting to go on stage! The producer of the show came by and asked why I was standing outside the dressing room! I said, You have a legend in there and I’m not trying to get fired on the first show of this tour! He said, “Oh! You don’t know Muddy? Go in and tell Muddy that you are his opening act and will be sharing the dressing room with him! I hesitantly entered the room where Muddy had about 20 college students sitting around him on the floor! He was sitting in this big bamboo chair and looked like he was holding court!

I said Mr. Waters, I’m your opening act and the producer said that I could share the dressing room with you!

Mr. Waters got up and told me to have a seat! He reached into a #2 washtub filled with ice and imported champagne, flown in from NY for Muddy, and grabbed a clean glass and served me a glass of champagne!

My mouth was wide open. My bottom lip was almost on the floor! I was thinking, “My friends are going to call me such a lie when I tell this story!”

I could not stop staring at Muddy! I admired him so much! He noticed and I apologized for starring! I then said, I don’t want to bother you, but I have so many questions to ask you! Muddy said shoot, right there in front of his fans! My first question was this, What do you do when you get hoarse? Muddy replied, Son, I just sing right through it! I later told my wife that it took me 10 years to figure out what that meant! I also thought that his statement was very ZEN!

When I got back to the dressing room after my show! Muddy said Son you’ve got to go back to the stage! And then I heard what Muddy heard! 1000 people were singing my last song, ‘I DON’T WANT TO BE UPTIGHT TONIGHT!’ I could hear them singing, I don’t want to be, don’t want to be uptight!

It seems that I was getting an encore before Muddy came out! He basically informed me that had never happened before! His exact words were,  You gotta go. I thought that he was about to get dressed and wanted privacy!  Muddy informed me that I was wanted back on stage! He also said “You Had Them Jumping!”

That was my first encounter with the amazing Mr. Muddy Waters, and I  bless him every time I hit the stage for being  so kind to me! I love you Muddy wherever you are! There’s probably a special part of Heaven for Blues Legends like Muddy and John Lee Hooker!
